Invited Participating Groups

HarbourVOICES! will include 12 Invited Participating Singing Groups/Choirs. Each group will present a 25-minute individual concert in the Festival schedule and participate in the HarbourSING! event and/or the Gala Concert.

Invited Participating Singing Groups/Choirs will have access to workshops, collaborations, seminars, and roundtables. These groups will be selected through an application process that will enable a wide range of representation (e.g., regionality, genre, cultural context).

We strongly encourage applications from diverse voices, especially groups that have not been included historically in traditional choral settings/festivals. We will also prioritise groups that are interested in collaboration and the reciprocal sharing of collective singing traditions. HarbourVOICES! is committed to representation from and within our province, our country, and our world.

Conditions of Participation

Festival Participation

All groups are required to participate in the entire Festival program (June 29 – July 4, 2024), including the Opening Ceremonies and the Gala Concert.

*Newfoundland & Labrador groups are strongly encouraged to participate in the entire Festival program but are not required to adhere strictly to this condition.

Travel & Accommodations

All groups are responsible for arranging and paying for travel to and from St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada (YYT).

Groups are responsible for arranging and paying for their own housing, meals, and transportation. HarbourVOICES! will provide all invited choirs with information about housing and dining opportunities in the St. John’s area. The Festival can assist in advising and organising housing, transportation, and meals.

Participation Fees

10 people or less – $1,000.00
11-20 people – $1,500.00
21-30 people – $2,000.00
31-50 people – $2,500.00
50 people or more – $3,000.00

All fees are in Canadian Dollars (CAD) and are subject to a 15% Harmonized Sales Tax (HST).

*Newfoundland & Labrador groups are not required to pay a participation fee.

Participation Includes:

  • 2 sharing/exchange workshops with guest artists/choral-singing leaders and/or other singing group/choir participants (to be arranged on an individual basis once the full participant roster is known)
  • Opportunity for individual singers to participate in additional Festival workshops, masterclasses, presentations via pre-registrations (pending space availability)
  • Performance in 1 afternoon concert of 25 stage-time minutes (if desired). Stage-time minutes include repertoire, movement on/off stage, introductions, applause, etc.
  • Opportunity to sing in a combined (HarbourSING!) and/or a massed choir (Gala Concert) event
  • Participation in Opening Ceremonies event (1-minute sharing performance)
  • Complimentary group tickets to 1 afternoon concert (choice of concert not guaranteed due to possible space restrictions). Priority tickets for HarbourSING! Event (if not performing)
  • Discounted ticket prices for a percentage of concerts (TBD)
  • Complimentary registration for the conductor or a representative of the group
  • Opening reception for conductors/group leaders
